On March 20th, the Korean Institute of Technology and Standards issued a 2023-0027 announcement, releasing a new standard for energy storage batteries, KC 62619. Compared to the 2019 version of KC 62619, the changes in the new version mainly include the following aspects: terminology definition and international standard alignment; The scope of application has been expanded, and mobile energy storage devices have been included in the control, making it more clear that portable outdoor energy storage power supplies are also within the scope; The scope of application is modified to be between 500kWh and 300kWh; The chapter supplements the requirements for battery system design; Add requirements for system locks; Add EMC requirements; Add a heat propagation test program that is out of control by laser contact heating.
Compared to the international standard IEC62619:2022, the differences between the new version of KC 62619 are reflected in: coverage: in the international standard, the scope of application is industrial batteries; KC 62619:2022 specifies that its scope is applicable to energy storage batteries, and that mobile/fixed energy storage batteries, camping power supplies, and mobile electric vehicle chargers belong to the standard scope. Sample quantity requirements: In Clause 6.2, the IEC standard requires a sample quantity of R (R is 1 or more); In the new version of KC 62619, three samples are required for each test of the battery cell, and one sample is required for the battery system.
At the same time, Appendix E has been added to the new KC 62619, detailing the evaluation method for battery systems below 5kWh. The announcement takes effect from the date of issuance, and the old version of the KC 62619 standard will be invalidated one year after the announcement takes effect.
